Why did my blind spot monitor stop working?
The radar sensors sit inside the rear corners of the bumper, so anything that covers or moves them matters: caked mud and snow, a towbar or bike rack in the beam, or a bumper that was refitted slightly out of position after a knock.
Does bumper repair affect blind spot monitoring?
It often does. Metallic paint applied over a radar sensor area, or a bumper reinstalled a few millimetres off, is enough to change the beam angle and cause missed or false alerts.
How is a blind spot fault diagnosed?
Both rear corners of the bumper are inspected and cleaned, and the sensor mountings are checked for damage or paint build-up from a previous repair. The BSM module is then scanned, each sensor alignment is checked, the wiring and communication are inspected, and calibration is carried out where the maker requires it.
How much does blind spot sensor replacement cost?
Typically $400-$900 per side including alignment. Cleaning or refitting a displaced sensor can cost far less.
