Why does my pre-collision system say it is unavailable?
Most often the radar behind the grille or the camera at the top of the windscreen cannot see clearly. Heavy rain, road salt, ice, mud, or a badge or plate frame over the radar will all shut the system down until the view clears.
Can I drive with a pre-collision fault?
Yes, but you are driving without that safety net. Leave more following distance and assume nothing will intervene for you.
How is a pre-collision fault diagnosed?
The ADAS modules are scanned first, then the radar behind the grille and its cover, and the camera bracket at the windscreen, are inspected for dirt, damage, or a shifted mounting. Sensor alignment and calibration status are checked, along with the network wiring and any bumper or glass damage that would move a sensor off its aim.
How much does pre-collision repair cost?
Calibration on its own is commonly $250-$600. If the radar or camera unit has to be replaced and then calibrated, budget $900-$2,500.
